Sergio Ernesto Barrera

 

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Virginia Tech. I am an applied microeconomist that focuses on education, health, immigration, and labor economics. My research focuses on inequality in higher education attainment by race and socioeconomic status, determinants and effects of  anti-immigration policy, as well as heterogenous effects of military service and exposure to the military. 



Prior to my time at Virginia Tech, I also served five years in the US Marine Corps and worked as a research analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, Opportunity and Inclusive Growth Institute.
